Member meetup FAQ

Pro Tips: Hosting a Member Meetup

Before the event

Choose a date 🗓️

  • We’ve hosted events Wednesday-Fridays so far and have had great turn out!
  • Try to plan 2-3 weeks in advance

Choose a location 📍

  • Some ideas: coffeeshops, bars, restaurants, breweries, cafes, parks.
  • Try to select a venue that will allow for great conversation and centrally located.
  • Plan ahead by making a reservation.

Attendees: we’ll add you to the Luma event page, so you can view who is coming ahead of time 🙂

We’ll confirm the budget approved to be used for the meetup. You can use your card to cover drinks and food for the group to be reimbursed later.

Make a reservation if needed for the group.

During the event

  • Arrive early! (We recommend ~15 mins before the start)
  • Let your server know your budget so they can flag if/when you’re approaching
  • Introduce yourself with a photo of you/the location you can be found at in the Slack channel so members can find you easily!
  • Order food for the group around 30 mins in - depending on the size of the group, it is usually easier to have a family-style or appetizer selection
  • Take some photos/videos to share in slack and on social 🙂
  • Don’t forget! Take a photo of your receipt, we’ll need this to reimburse you!

After the event

  • Fill out this form to get your reimbursement started.
  • Connect with those who attended on Slack and/or social!

Member Meetups
Kindred is more than a platform, it's a community.

Why we review homes

At Kindred, “give-to-get” is core to our values. Members are only able to travel as much as they contribute, fostering a fair and balanced community. To ensure that all members accepted to Kindred will see reasonable demand to their home, each home is vetted to verify that it meets our acceptance requirements, and that it is safe, functional, and inviting for member stays.

Our acceptance requirements:

How do applications work?

1
Answer a few questions and confirm your home is eligible.
2
Upload 3+ photos to verify your home.
3
We’ll review your photos to ensure it meets our acceptance requirements.
4
Once approved, you’ll earn 5 credits to start booking travel.

Home location

We are currently only accepting homes in specific locations across North America and Europe in order to balance supply and demand, and better manage our operations:

Large metropolitan cities

Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, London, etc.

Nature/outdoor, vacation, or ski destinations

Swiss Alps, Hawaii, near national parks, etc.

Getaway destinations within a 2 to 3-hour drive of a major city

Napa, Catskills, Cotswolds, etc.
Please note: We expand to new destinations based on supply, demand, and the availability of dedicated cleaners in the area. If your location isn’t accepted right away, we’ll notify you when we begin accepting homes in your region.

Home type

We support a range of homes, with a minimum requirement of 400 square feet.

We accept:

  • Studio apartments to 4+ bedroom homes
  • Rented and owned
  • Apartments, townhouses, condos, single family residences

We do not yet accept:

  • Homes primarily used as Airbnbs or short-term rentals
  • Tiny homes
  • Mobile homes
  • Houseboats
  • Treehouses
  • Tents
  • Any buildings not zoned for residential use
  • Studio apartments less than 400 square feet
Curious about why we don’t accept homes primarily used as Airbnbs?

Comfort requirements

At Kindred, we believe a home’s character is what makes it special, and take pride in welcoming homes that have lived in charm over sterile investment properties. Our comfort requirements are designed to preserve the personal touches that make your home unique, while ensuring a relaxed environment where guests can settle in and feel like they’re in a home away from home.

Safe

No obvious safety or health hazards:

  • Private entrance to the home, ensuring direct access without needing to pass through another living space. Shared exterior pathways, like garden walkways to a separate back unit, are acceptable.
  • Secure doors & windows with functional locks. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors installed and functioning.
  • No unfinished construction, broken furniture, or unsafe stairs.
  • No mold or other health hazards (such as pests) in the home.
  • See property requirements for full set of safety features.

Functional

Furnished to accommodate longer stays:

  • Reasonably equipped kitchen with at least a 4-burner stove, a sink, a refrigerator, and basic cookware. Appliances must be well-maintained in good working order.
  • Comfortable living spaces with a sofa and seating for 3+ people.
  • Primary bedroom has a full-size or larger mattress on a bed frame, adequate storage, and curtain or shades for privacy.
  • Living spaces must not be cluttered, and home must be functional for member stays (for e.g. free counter space in the kitchen, work desks are usable etc.)
  • Plumbing is in good working order, and sinks, showers etc. are draining properly.

Inviting

Thoughtful design with lived-in charm:

  • Contemporary and cohesive furnishings, with reasonably updated appliances, fixtures, and decor throughout the home.
  • Furnishings are well-maintained — no visibly worn or broken items.
  • Thoughtful decorative elements like plants, artwork, and rugs that add warmth and ensure spaces feel inviting.
  • Well-lit spaces with ample natural light.
  • Quiet, restful environment with adequate soundproofing if facing a busy street.

What happens if my home isn’t accepted?

No worries! If we’re unable to accept your home right away, we’ll automatically add it to our waitlist. Less than half of the applications submitted to Kindred are accepted immediately, and we review our waitlist frequently as we expand locations or as demand changes.
Have questions? Reach out to our team at acceptances@livekindred.com.
