What if, instead of meeting somewhere to talk about books, we spent an afternoon reading our way through a London neighbourhood?
For our second Kindred Bookish experience, we’re taking our reading outside and wandering through De Beauvoir—stopping along the way to read, browse, eat, drink, chat, and discover a different side of London. This is a reading crawl, not a bookshop crawl: at each stop, we’ll settle in and actually read, with the walks between them giving us time to chat and take in the neighbourhood.
Bring whatever you’re currently reading—there’s no required book, page count, or discussion questions. Whether you’re into a novel, memoir, or that book that’s been sitting on your bedside table for three months, it all counts.
Recommended reads: 📚 I Want You to Be Happy — Jem Calder — A sharp, intimate story of modern love, ambition, and finding your place in contemporary London. 📚 Evenings and Weekends — Oisín McKenna — A summer London story of friendships, relationships, and feeling young, slightly lost, and completely immersed in the city.
We’ll start at Haggerston Station, make our way through De Beauvoir with stops at a café, independent bookshop, and wine bar or ice cream spot, then finish at the pub for drinks, food, and proper socials.
